Attacking Breakdowns

we're well past the midway point of the 2022 season (it's a balmy 80 degrees in Southern California and i'm ready for fall flavors and playoff soccer), so let's take a look at the state of The Attack of all 12 NWSL sides thus far. here's how these work: every chart includes players who have played at least 25 percent of their team's minutes (about 375 minutes) and taken at least one shot per their team's games (about 15).

the charts then show how many expected goals those players have contributed (from left to right) and how many actual goals they've scored (from top to bottom) per 96 minutes. the idea is to show both who is scoring all the goals for every team (alex morgan for the san diego wave) and how much scoring depth each team has. so, things look really bad for the Tri-State Area Gotham, as you might imagine. things look really damn good for the portland thorns, on the other hand.

got it? cool!
